Shots Across the Bow - May 15, 2022
Shots Across the Bow is my quick rat-tat-tat reaction to the ever billowing surge of distorted garbage presented as “news…” when disinformation & misinformation have taken over most of what we continue to identify as “credible” reflection of what’s happening around us. After more than four decades of consuming, distributing, analyzing, criticizing, and, often, debunking garbage offered as “news,” I have no more time to waste.
Ole Man Biden et.al. are breaking the American bank by pouring billions into Ukraine in a tit-for-tat with Putin that has already grown into a threat of global nuclear conflagration. The latest was a neat $40 billion as a gift to comedian Zelenskyy for buying more weapons, which was thankfully stalled by Senator Rand Paul.
Forty billion almost thrown into a bottomless pit when the US of A has run out of baby formula, struggles with inflation and deteriorating infrastructure, and has driven fuel costs for keeping the country moving through the roof, just to mention the mere top of this blossoming crisis.
The Europeans, meantime, are competing with each other on who’s going to emerge as the “toughest” and most “courageous” in meeting Putin toe-to-toe in a nuclear war, which might be (terrifyingly) closer even by pessimistic prognostications.
The Finns and the Swedes must have also been smoking I don’t know what as they compete with each other on declaring how NATO will protect them against Russia. What it is that spawns this unbreakable confidence is still a mystery. And these are states with a long experience on how Muscovy perceives the world.
Those who continue to release “credible” estimates of how the Russian forces are being “degraded,” thanks to heroic Ukrainian resistance, should stop resting exclusively on Ukrainian media, and Zelenkyy’s agitprop cowboys or the “woke” US media, and seek the opinion of real experts.
There are still quite a few of those in America, but they are not very popular with the “woke” media because they deal with hard facts instead of “scenarios” concocted according to the ebb and flow of fake news.
While we in the West continue to congratulate each other over supporting Ukrainian “democracy,” those who know, and remember, history understand Moscow (and not Putin alone)
will never surrender what it considers an inviolable part of Russia’s forward defense.
That an increasing number of “experts” are steadily expounding on how Putin could be “neutralized” by a (non-existent) domestic opposition is a clear sign that, even the pro-Ukraine optimists, see no clear resolution of the Russian domestic predicament.
And even if Putin somehow stumbles and falls, the post-Putin Russia, most likely, won’t be what the “Free World” wants her to be.
On an entirely different note, check Celebrities Are Such Scumbags Because They’re Invested In The Status Quo.
This is the handiwork of Caitlin Johnstone, an unusual Australian journalist of gargantuan output, who’s daily writings highlight “the end of illusions.”
Johnstone, who identifies herself as “of the Left,” is subject to severe criticism by both sides of the divide. Indeed, many declare she’s a Russian agent and dismiss her outright (read this as a sample of the swelling ire against her by ‘true Free World democrats’). Whatever the case might be, her piece of the celebrities is worth a close reading.
