Greece: Wildfires Apocalypse
Greece is just emerging from her worst wildfires inferno ever—with greenery across the country having been dealt an unprecedented death blow.
This is an ecological catastrophe which is, most likely, irreversible: the estimated scale of reforestation required to mend the wounds is beyond the capacities of a deeply corrupt oligarchic politico-economic system.
And on top of the physical disaster, tens of thousands have lost everything and instantly transitioned into a new pauperized class on top of those already destroyed by the impact of the pandemic.
As for the incumbent Mitsotakis administration, the scope of its criminal incompetence awes even the most hardened observers of Greece’s trials and tribulations.
But even if Mitsotakis et.al. are defenestrated tomorrow, there’s simply no hands capable to handle the crisis. This may sound hyperbolic and unbelievable but those closer to the ground will tell you it ain’t an exaggeration.
